Teacher & Support Staff of the Year

It is a great honor to represent PVMS as Teacher of the Year this year. I began my teaching career over 20 years ago in the lowcountry of South Carolina. When my family moved to the upstate thirteen years ago, I made the decision to obtain a master's degree in Middle Level Language Arts which led me to the opportunity to teach at Powdersville Middle School. This year will be my tenth year as a 7th grade English/Language Arts teacher at PVMS. I currently co-sponsor the PVMS Student Council and have also sponsored the 7th grade Beta Club. I enjoy working with our students in extracurricular activities and encouraging them to get involved. There are so many aspects of our school that I love. Our administrators and teachers are committed to excellence. We enjoy building relationships with our students and strive to engage students in our classrooms. Therefore, I know that, while this year may look different, we will all continue to serve the PVMS students to the best of our abilities. My mission this year is to approach each new challenge with a positive attitude. Together, the PVMS community will seek ways to improve the educational experience for our students while maintaining a safe environment for everyone. It is important that all of our face-to-face students and our Virtual Learning Academy students feel connected and valued. Our theme this year is “Patriot Strong.” We persevere and achieve, because we are tenacious, resourceful, inspiring, overcomers, and thankful. I am excited to help guide us through the 2020-2021 school year and look forward to a fantastic year!

I’ve been a nurse for 17 years. I’m originally from Louisiana. My nursing experience is in NICU, Shriner’s Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, and I’ve worked for a Pediatric Cardiology group. We have moved several times due to my husband’s job. We came to South Carolina in 2010. I have 2 children, Ryleigh and Landri Kate, who attend Powdersville Schools.
I have been at PVMS for 3 years. This is my favorite nursing job by far! I love being a school nurse. It is a different type of nursing, but very beneficial to the community and overall health and wellness of students and faculty. I love developing relationships with the students at PVMS during their time with us. I love the teaching aspect of my job and enjoy sharing with students simple solutions to common complaints that aren’t illness related. I do a lot of educating on the importance of rest, hydration, and proper diet. I love teaching students how to make informed decisions about their health and gain confidence in their self care. My door is always open. I love supporting our students in their activities as well. I may be seen at basketball games, pageants, and football games.
I also enjoy the staff at PVMS, they are a second family to me. There is no place else I would rather be!
