Welcome to our 1st grade class!  I am so excited and looking forward to a wonderful school year!  My name is Katie Howard and this is my 11th year teaching.  I taught third grade at West Pelzer Elementary for seven years.  Then, I taught Gifted and Talented at West Pelzer Elementary and Cedar Grove Elementary Schools and also taught English as a Second Language (ESOL) at Concrete Primary for one year.  I taught 1st grade for 2 years at Concrete, looped up with my class to teach 2nd grade, and now I am excited to be back in 1st grade teaching in the Virtual Learning Academy this school year! I absolutely LOVE teaching 1st grade! The growth that happens in 1st grade in all areas is amazing!

I was born and raised in Greenville County and I graduated from Clemson University in 2008. I received a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Anderson University in 2013 and I completed my second Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in ESOL and Gifted and Talented from Clemson University in 2017.  Go Tigers!  My husband, Chip, and I live in Greenville and we have a Labradoodle named Tillie.  We just had our first child, Ford, this past April.  We have loved becoming parents to this sweet boy! I love to travel, read, play the piano, go to the beach, and cheer on the Clemson Tigers at football games!

This year, we will learn a lot of new and exciting things.  As we learn together, please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.  I want to communicate and work together with you throughout the school year.I am very excited about this school year and look forward to getting to know you and your child better throughout this year.
