Welcome to my website! I am very excited about teaching 8th grade English during this 2022/2023 school year!  I am originally from Michigan and graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in creative writing. I also earned a master's degree in teaching from Clemson University. I am currently working on my doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction through Anderson University.
Reading and writing are a passion of mine, and in my free time, I enjoy a good book or working on my writing. I have been teaching middle school English for seventeen years, and have worked at Wren Middle for the past fifteen. I love being a part of the wonderful Wren community. My husband is a lieutenant with the Clemson University Police Department, and I have two children who attend Wren schools. My daughter is in eighth grade at Wren Middle and my son is in second grade at Wren Elementary. Our family has two cats named Rosie and Bubbles and a dog named Olive. We love traveling, spending time outside, and playing board games.
Most of the information that will be helpful for parents and students can be found on my virtual page.  Just go to the link and click on it. Students will receive information on homework, quizzes, projects, and test dates every Monday.  This information will be written on the board, and I will encourage students to write down important dates in either a paper agenda or in an app.  I will go over this schedule in depth on Mondays and make verbal reminders daily.  Please encourage your student to take the time to get this information down in some form.  A lot of information and links to assignments will be in Google Classroom.  Students who miss class are encouraged to check Google Classroom to see what was covered.  Another app that will help students prepare for class is the Quizlet app. If you are interested in seeing what your student is working on, or if you would like to help your student study, please view your student's accounts on these apps.  Students will be expected to study and read every day in addition to completing any written homework they may have.
Students in my English 1 Honors classes will have a stem quiz every Thursday, so studying stems for at least 10 minutes each evening will be beneficial. In addition to stems, there will also be vocabulary for various units to study throughout the year. Students will have reading assignments and expectations throughout the school year, so reading each day will be imperative. I encourage students to learn to read in the margins of their lives in order to find ways to fit reading into their daily schedules. While I have embedded the use of technology in most things I teach, students will also have access to paper copies.  Checking your student's binder and helping him/her stay organized will be beneficial for success.

I look forward to being your partner in education.  Please communicate with me as needed should you have questions or concerns!
