    ·        Breakfast with Mom – Due to some of the cafeteria staff being out of town on 4/19 and 4/21, we went back to Muffins with Mom, instead of school breakfast with Mom.  It went well.  The cafeteria staff would like for us to communicate the special breakfast dates to them as early as possible in future years.

    ·        Mother Son Night – This special night will be Friday, May 13th and will feature the Critter Keeper for entertainment.  The plan is to have 2 shows so the moms and boys can rotate between the food (the plan is pizza) and the show.  If you can help in any way, please contact Stephanie or Vikki as soon as possible.

    ·        Fall Festival – The date is set for October 14, 2016.

    ·        Palmetto Fund Raiser – Vikki and Stephanie are meeting with Kurt to secure a date, hopefully similar to the October time frame of last year.

    ·        Other – There is a proposal for the PTO to possibly meet every other month during the 2016-2017 school year.  The 1st meeting will most likely be the 1st Tuesday in August and will be communicated as soon as it is solidified.

    ·        Principal – Mr. Lesley informed the Board that Mrs. White, Mrs. Bolding, Ms. Mann, Ms. Mundy, Ms. Holder, Ms. Blackburn, and Ms. Driver will be retiring or leaving/moving at the end of the school year.  We wish them the best of luck.

    ·        Teacher Luncheon – There was a tailgating theme for the teacher luncheon on January 13th. Some teachers sent notes of thanks.  All were appreciative.

     

    New Business:      

    ·        Variety Show Auditions – Mrs. Blume needs volunteers for Tuesday, February 9 and Thursday, February 11 from 2:45-4:30 to help with crowd control in the gymnasium.  Please let her know if you can help, if only for 30 minutes.

    ·        Daddy Daughter Dance 2/19 – While a lot of the volunteer positions have been filled, there is still some need for volunteers and a need for winter wonderland desserts (i.e., white or aqua blue desserts with powdered sugar, sprinkles, etc. used to support the Winter Wonderland theme). Setup begins at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event.  Please help if you can.

    ·        Val-O-Grams – Forms are due back on Monday 2/8/15.

    ·        Teacher Luncheon – For planning purposes, the next teacher luncheon will be on March 22nd and will be an “Around the World” theme.

    ·        Other – Fundraiser: The PTO intends to use the catalog order fundraiser for the upcoming year.

    Old Business:

    ·        Fall Fundraiser Pickup – Orders were picked up on Tuesday, November 10th The Fundraiser was a great success.

    ·        Santa Shop – 12/7-12/11: Thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped at Santa Shop.

    ·        Breakfast with Santa – This event was on 12/5 from 8 am-10 am.

    ·        Teacher/Staff/Administration: Thanks to anyone who took the Blue Ribbon Award Survey that Mr. Lesley mentioned at the last meeting.  Due to much hard work on the part of the administration, staff, and students, Spearman is now a Lighthouse Blue Ribbon School. 

     

    New Business:      

    ·        Teacher Luncheon – There is a tailgating theme for the teacher luncheon on January 13th.  Please sign up to bring “tailgating” food if you have not already done so.  Have your food to the school Wednesday by 10:00 a.m.

    ·        Daddy Daughter Dance – Mark your calendars for 2/19/15 from 6-8:30 p.m.  The theme for this year’s dance and Prime Rib dinner will be a Winter Wonderland.  The cost is $30/couple and an additional $10 for additional daughter. Much help is needed.  If you can make a dessert and/or serve that evening, please contact Jana Forrester or Jen Opper.  Also, if you have Christmas trees, white lights, pseudo-ice sculptures, fake snow, snowflakes, extension cords, etc., please let Jana or Jen know as well.  Desserts should be white or wintery looking (i.e., white doughnut holes, white chocolate dipped oreos, cupcakes with white frosting and aqua sprinkles, etc.) to reinforce the theme of the evening.      

    ·        Fall Festival – Chanda Feil has requested that a date be set for the Fall Festival 2016 to allow as much planning time as possible.

    ·        Teachers/Administration – Mrs. Ayers discussed that the rock wall, which was paid for by the fundraiser, should be installed in the gymnasium shortly. The televisions purchased and displayed throughout the school will be wired soon as well.  Also, Mrs. Ayers fielded questions regarding the Lunch & Learn coming up on 1/12/16.  Thanks to Debbie Baker, Anderson District 1 Parent Liaison for heading this up.

    ·        The 2015/2016 Calendar was reviewed.  The 10/29 teacher luncheon was moved to 11/5/15.  Otherwise, there were no changes to the calendar at this time.

    ·        Teacher Luncheon – The teacher’s luncheon was 8/17/15.  It was a picnic theme. 

    ·        Boo-Hoo Breakfast – 8/18/15 Thank you to everyone who helped. 

    ·        Volunteer Breakfast – 8/27/15 Again, thank you to everyone who brought food, served, set-up, and/or cleaned-up. 

      

    New Business:            

    ·        Fall Festival – The Fall Festival is scheduled for 10/23/15.  Vikki Young has collected some amazing donations for the raffle.  Please share on facebook and elsewhere. Chanda Feil welcomes help and suggestions.  There will be sign-ups for volunteers needed on the day of the event.  Candy donations will be needed closer to the festival.

    ·        Breakfast with Grands – 9/8 and 9/10/15 It will be structured like last year and will involve the grandparents buying their own breakfast.  We need greeters, clean-up, and coffee creamers.  Please let Stephanie or Vikki know if you can help.

    ·        Book Fair – 9/8-9/14/15 Mrs. Gambrell would appreciate any volunteer help during the Book Fair.

    ·        Membership Drive – We have $351 for net membership income to date.  Diana Nelms will be helping promote membership with a contest (maybe popsicles) between the classes and perhaps and kid-free lunch for the teacher who has the most participation.

    ·        Mulch for Playground – Mr. Lesley has asked PTO to consider helping with mulch this year.  He is waiting on a quote but estimates it to be around $1,400 or possibly between $800 and $1,000 if we spread it ourselves.  Quotes will be available by the next meeting or before.

    ·        School Representatives – Katy Bethea thanked the PTO for the wonderful lunch on 8/17/15.

    Megan Hines discussed the Financial Report:  Ending balance is $24,256.84. The Financial Report was approved by the board.

    Megan also discussed the 2015/2016 budget, and it was approved by the board.  In 2015/2016 business, teachers will be receiving more for their start-up fees to offset the removal of Boosterthon from the budget this year.  Megan also mentioned that Community First Bank has begun charging several fees on our account.  Megan checked with BB&T and suggested that the board consider moving the account to BB&T.  Motion passed.

    New Business:            

    ·        The 2015/2016 Bylaws were presented to the Board and approved without change.

    ·        Fall Festival – The Fall Festival is scheduled for 10/23/15.  Chanda Feil welcomes any suggestions.  If you know anyone that has connections for a petting zoo or petting zoo animals, please let her know.  Raffle items will be collected by grade; however, any donations that you can get for the raffle items now would be much appreciated.  We are still looking for outdoor lights for the festival and/or may consider only going until 7:00 since it got dark at the end of the festival last year. 

    ·        Teacher Luncheon – The teacher luncheon is 8/17/15.  This will be a picnic theme.  Please sign up to bring an item if you have not already done so.  All items should be to the school by 11. 

    ·        Boo-Hoo Breakfast – 8/18/15 at 8:00am.  Please help by signing up to serve, set-up, and/or clean-up. 

    ·        Volunteer Breakfast – 8/27/15 at 8:15am.  Please help by signing up to bring food, serve, set-up, and/or clean-up.  The food needs to be at the school by 7:30/7:45.

    ·        Other News – The possibility of deleting boo-grams from our calendar was discussed, and the decision was tabled until a further meeting.

    ·        Staff Representatives – Ms. Bethea, Mrs. Means and Mrs. Allen will be our staff representatives this year.

    ·        Principal/Assistant Principal – Mr. Lesley announced that Spearman is now a Title I school.  This is beneficial for certain funding.  Mr. Lesley also encouraged everyone to be optimistic and encouraging on social media as we represent Spearman.  In other news, there are many new teachers.  Let’s welcome them to Spearman as we see them.

    Old Business:

    * The Teacher Luncheon was a Super Bowl theme, and the teachers were very happy with it. Thank you everyone.

    * Boosterthon was on January 29th and seemed to be a huge success. Collecting is a very important part of the process. According to Danielle, if we collect 100%, we should net approximately $17,500. Friday, 2/6/15, is the count day.

    New Business:

    * Valograms – These will go out the week of 2/9/15.

    * Breakfast with Dad – Tuesday 2/3/15 went well and Thursday 2/5/15 is left to go.

    * Box Tops for Education – February 20th is the final day to turn Box Tops in to Spearman and receive the money this year. They can still be turned in, but we will not mail them off and receive the check until next school year.

    * Daddy/Daughter Dance – Scheduled for 2/20/15. Some tablecloths still need to be stain treated and/or ironed. Also needed:

    o Servers

    o Extension Cord

    o A few helpers

    o Cupcakes, Brownies, Cookies (desserts)

    We also talked about the menu, and Jana said that she would send home a meal selection sheet.

    There will only be 1 photo booth this year.

    Volunteers, please arrive at 5:30 and wear a white shirt and dark pants.

    * The Variety Show Auditions will be on February 10th and February 12th. Please let Mrs. Blume or Ms. Bethea know if you can help.

    Breakfast with Santa – Breakfast with Santa was a little different this year but seemed to go well.  Photos were taken independently by the parents and there was no charge to attend. 

    Santa Shop – Santa Shop was a huge success this year.  Thanks to Vikki Young and everyone else for the countless hours involved, Santa Shop made $3,777.23.

    New Business:            

    Teacher Luncheon – It will be on 1/14/15 and will be a Super bowl theme.  PTO will provide the drinks.  Please sign-up to bring something and have your dishes to the school by 10:15.

    Boosterthon – The kick-off will be on January 21st, and the run is on January 29th. This year the theme is “Rock’n town live”.  Jana Forrester has sent out an email to solicit volunteers to decorate the school with hanging records and to decorate the stage.  If you have any microphones, speakers, etc. that would give the stage a band appearance, please let Jana know. The Boosterthon t-shirts have come in, and the cost was covered by our sponsors.

    Vote – There was a K-4 student whose family lost pretty much everything in a house fire last week.  The board voted and approved giving the family a $200 gift card to cover immediate needs.  This money will be taken from the “Emergency Clothes and Needy Families” line item.

    Other:

    o   The check for Box tops came in for $2,272.55 from the fall submission.

    o   Emily McKinney suggested offering the flu shot at school in future years.

    o   The Daddy/Daughter Dance will be on February 20th.  The theme will be centered around a Masquerade.  Anyone who has white lights, mirrors, a chandelier, candelabras, etc. should contact Shelly Croft, Jana Forrester, or Jennifer Opper.

    Old Business:

    ·        On October 7, 2014, Mr. Havird, our District Superintendent, spoke about the tax proposal that was voted on Nov. 4th. The tax proposal passed in Anderson County.

    ·        Teacher’s Luncheon – The Halloween theme on October 21st was well-received by the teachers.

    ·        Box Tops – The fall deadline for box tops was October 22nd. Thanks to all those who worked hard to meet this deadline. We will still continue to collect for the spring.

    ·        Fall Festival – The Fall Festival was October 10th from 4-8 p.m.  To date, the profit was $3,290.66, which was what we had budgeted.  Congratulations to the Fall Festival team! One idea given was to shorten the time or provide better lighting at the back of the school.

    New Business:            

    ·        Christmas Decorating and Breakfast with Santa – Decorating the school will be on December 1st at 8:00am. Please try to make it if you can. Breakfast with Santa will be on December 6th, and Santa Shop will be open on that day.

    ·        Santa Shop – Santa Shop will be the week of December 8th and will maybe be open on the night of 11th after the 2nd grade play.  Many workers will be needed for this to be a success.

    ·        Boosterthon – The kick-off will be on January 21st, and the run is on January 29th.

    ·        Board Party – The Christmas party will be on December 2nd or 4th (TBD). Please look for the evite which will go out soon.

    ·        Remind 101 – Don’t forget to sign up for your teacher’s Remind account as well as Spearman Elementary’s Remind account.

    ·        IPad rollout on September 4th was a huge success.

    New Business:            

    ·        Special Guest: Mr. Havird – Our District Superintendent spoke about the tax proposal that will be voted on Nov. 4th. If you were not there, the information is on the Anderson District One website. 

    ·        Boo Grams – We will be sending home forms soon.

    ·        Teacher’s Luncheon – It will be a Halloween theme and will be Tuesday, October 21st.  Please contact Danielle Bailey if you have not signed up and have your food items to the school no later than 10:15.

    ·        Box Tops – The fall deadline for box tops is October 22nd. If you are a room mom, please pass this information on to your classrooms. We will still continue to collect for the spring deadline after the 22nd, but it would be great to do a “push” for the fall deadline.

    ·        Fall Festival – The Fall Festival is this Friday, October 10th from 4-8 p.m.  Please consider helping with any of the following:

    1)    Volunteers needed for any or all time slots on Friday, as well as for set-up and clean-up.

    2)    Volunteers needed to pick up hay on Friday.  Trucks and trailers welcome.

    3)    If you know of any vendors that want to participate, please let Becki Smith know by Thursday.

    4)    We still need corn stalks and large pumpkins to be donated.

    5)    Items are still needed for the auction baskets: Gift cards ($5 is great!) books/book-themed items, Christmas basket items, and Clemson and Carolina items needed. Please send any of these items to the school. 

    6)    Share Fall Festival information on your facebook and other social media pages.

    7)    Don’t forget we are offering wrist bands again this year (like we did for Spring Fling last year).  They will be $20.  We will still be offering tickets in lower denominations as well.

    Old Business:

    * Thanks to Vikki Young and everyone else who contributed to the Teacher’s Luncheon. It was awesome and a huge success.

    * Boo-hoo breakfast was well attended. There has been a suggestion to include the 5th grade parents to the Boo-hoo breakfast in the future.

    * Thank you to all who organized, cooked, and brought items for the Volunteer Breakfast. Many people responded to the needs for room parents and upcoming PTO events.

    New Business:

    * Membership – We are at about $500 for membership. Lori Rizk will continue to encourage participation throughout the month, and the class with the most participation will get a treat (yet to be determined).

    * Breakfast with Grandparents will be September 9 and 11. It has been set up a little differently and will be served by the cafeteria at a charge of $2 per grandparent and $1 per student. We will see how it goes in order to determine how the other events like this will be handled this school year. Please turn in your RSVP by Friday, September 05, 2014.

    * The Fall Festival has been moved to October 10, 2014. Chanda Feil discussed the need for vendors and her work so far on the food, games, pumpkins, hayride, etc. There are 350 small pie pumpkins in Chester, SC that need to be picked up that week, and there are also needs for volunteers, people to pick up hay bales on that Friday morning, and a Volunteer Coordinator to organize the volunteers (make sure they get staffing relief, water, etc.). Please sign up online or contact Chanda or Becki Smith to help with these needs.

    * Remind 101 - This is a great tool. Remember to sign up for your teacher’s Remind account as well as Spearman Elementary’s Remind account.

    * Box Tops – Many box tops have already come in. Thanks to Alicia Timmons, Jill Koch, and Kelly Jordan for your work on this. Teachers are competing to be the top class for box tops for the year so send in your box tops!

    * Jane Ayers shared that the IPad rollout today (September 4) was a huge success and thanked the parents for their involvement with the rollout. District personnel on site for the rollout spoke positively of the Spearman parents and their involvement.

    Discussion:

    * Boosterthon – Jana Forrester is working with business contacts regarding the Boosterthon t-shirts.

    * The Board voted on and approved Amanda Croston as the Secretary to replace Angie Stalling who will not be at Spearman this year.

    * Names and addresses of PTO board members were distributed along with the duties of each position and the PTO By-laws.

    * The Board voted on and approved the By-laws.

    * Danielle Bailey discussed the calendar for the year.

    * A sign-up sheet was passed around for the Teacher’s Luncheon on August 14, 2014. A book theme was suggested and board members were asked to either bring a food item related to the suggested books or donate a book(s) to be given as door prizes to the teachers.

    * PTO members were asked to man the PTO booth during Open House from 3:30-6:30 on August 14, 2014. A sign-up sheet was passed around.

    * A sign-up sheet was passed around for the Boo-Hoo Breakfast on August 18, 2014.

    * Finally, a sign-up sheet was passed around for members to contribute to the Volunteer Breakfast scheduled for August 27, 2014.

    * There was a discussion regarding the Boosterthon “Project” for the 2014-2015 school year. The Board decided to focus on a Multi-purpose outdoor classroom to be targeted for the space outside the science lab.

    * Mr. Lesley discussed Anderson District One’s iPad initiative, which includes an iPad mini per 3rd-12th grade student. There will be much more communication regarding this as school gets started. Spearman’s iPad rollout is scheduled for September 4, 2014.

    Discussion:

    * If you have any ideas, vendors, etc. for the fall festival on October 17, 2014, please contact Chanda Feil as soon as possible.

    ·        Pass Monitors – we need monitors for testing, please contact Mrs. Wittebort if you would like to help with this.  

    ·        Teacher Appreciation – May 12 through May 16.  Kelly Jordan has teachers wish lists.

    ·        Field Day – Friday May 16, PTO will pay for Snow Cones.  Please come help with Field Day if you can! It will be a fun time.

    ·       Spring Fling – Chanda needs for everyone whowants to help to fill out the volunteer form. Some of the e things we will have are: Kettle Corn guy, Peanut man, IceCream truck, Creekside BBQ, Joe Schmo’s, blowups, dunk tank, smokehouse andfiretruck, Ambulance.  We will have goatsto pet, and if you know of anyone who has any animals that could be used forpetting zoo, please let Chanda know.  Wewill also have silent auction baskets again this year.

    ·       Box Tops – Diana Nelms – we have earnedapproximately $2,500 in Box Tops for our last turn in. 

    ·       There will be a Boosterthon meeting next weekand we will find out what the theme will be for next year.

    ·       Mr. Lesley is working with the HighwayDepartment and the District Office about ideas for the carline and trafficflow.

    ·        Daddy/Daughter Dance was great.  Numbering the tables helped, everything went smoothly and more quickly.  Sending the pictures home with the girls and not sending them through email helped.

    ·        Color Run was awesome! We have received lots of positive feedback.  Mr. Lesley showed the video that was made from the pictures that his brother took.

    New Business:

    ·          Teacher luncheon will be on March 20 instead of March 27, because of spring pictures, report cards and 3rd grade field trip.  The theme will be Spring Picnic items.

    ·       Mother/Son Night – Mr. Lesley and Danielle are looking at the calendar this week and Danielle will contact that committee.

    ·       Spring Fling – Chanda is in Kenya and will be ready to plan and get things going as soon as she gets back.

    Discussion:

    ·       We need to promote our new PTO Facebook page.  This is where we post lots of information. 

    ·       We discussed the possibility of switching decorations with other schools so that everyone’s hard work does not go to waste.

    ·       Miss Bethea needs volunteers to help watch children for the Kindergarten Parent Night on April 24. 

    ·       Information about the turning lane was discussed.  Mr. Lesley talked with our district about what can be done.  Jennifer Opper called and talked with someone and the cost would be about $200,000.  Dustin is going to take pictures of the carline during the afternoon pickup and get together a packet.  He is also going to contact to see the last time a car count was taken.

    Discussion:

    ·       Boosterthonhas put us down for next school year. The run will be January 28, 2015. We need to be creative in thinking of ways to make everyone pay theirpledges to make it fair.

    ·       Walkingtrack total was $20,500.00.  They also resurfacedthe black top.  The money raised fromlast year and this year paid for it with a little left over to help withtechnology in the classrooms.  Maybe nextyear’s goal will be replacing the basketball goals. 

    ·       Wewill have a table at the health fair to let people know what we are doing forhealthy alternatives to traditional fundraisers, Boosterthon, and the walkingtrack.  We will also be advertising ourColor Run and taking registrations. 

    ·       DaddyDaughter Dance needs servers and people to bring desserts. 

    ·       ColorRun:  Help promote registrations and likeand share on Facebook.  Gogreenevents.comis the website to sign up.  If anyone hasany connections, we need a raffle item for a boy and an adult/couple.  American Girl donated a doll.

    When we have teacher’s luncheons, PTO will pay for the drinks and we are each responsible for providing the food we signed up for at our own cost.

     

     

    Volunteers are needed in the library for the book fair next week.  

     

     

    Santa Shop – we are having a company come in and do this for us.  Penguin Patch.  Also, Southern Scents donated ornaments and a display rack for us to use.
